В Алта́йских гора́х есть необы́чное ме́сто. Оно́ называ́ется уро́чище Кызы́л-Чин. Лю́ди ча́сто называ́ют его́ «ра́дужными гора́ми Алта́я». Э́то о́чень краси́вое ме́сто, и оно́ похо́же на другу́ю плане́ту.
In the Altai Mountains there is an unusual place. It is called the Kyzyl-Chin area. People often call it "the rainbow mountains of Altai." It is a very beautiful place, and it looks like another planet.
Го́ры здесь ра́зного цве́та: кра́сные, жёлтые, зелёные и ора́нжевые. Почему́ так? Потому́ что в камня́х мно́го ра́зных мета́ллов. Ма́рганец даёт сире́невый цвет, желе́зо — кра́сный, а хром — жёлтый. Цвета́ меня́ются от све́та. У́тром го́ры вы́глядят осо́бенно краси́во.
The mountains here are of different colors: red, yellow, green and orange. Why is that? Because there are many different metals in the rocks. Manganese gives a lilac color, iron gives red, and chromium gives yellow. The colors change with the light. In the morning the mountains look especially beautiful.
Здесь почти́ нет расте́ний. Всё вокру́г напомина́ет Марс. Да́же указа́тели пи́шут «Марс». Го́ры име́ют ра́зную фо́рму. Есть глубо́кие овра́ги, высо́кие столбы́ и поло́гие скло́ны.
There are almost no plants here. Everything around looks like Mars. Even the signposts say "Mars." The mountains have different shapes. There are deep ravines, tall pillars and gentle slopes.
Ря́дом течёт река́. Она́ берёт во́ду из го́рных леднико́в. Днём лёд та́ет, и река́ течёт. Но́чью, когда́ со́лнца нет, река́ почти́ сто́ит на ме́сте.
A river flows nearby. It takes its water from mountain glaciers. During the day the ice melts, and the river flows. At night, when there is no sun, the river almost stands still.
Миллио́ны лет наза́д здесь бы́ло мо́ре. Поэ́тому сейча́с на земле́ мо́жно найти́ раку́шки и сухи́е во́доросли.
Millions of years ago there was a sea here. That is why today you can find shells and dry seaweed on the ground.
До пе́рвой горы́ мо́жно дое́хать на маши́не. Да́льше ну́жно идти́ пешко́м. Тури́стов здесь немно́го. В основно́м приезжа́ют го́сти с ме́стных турба́з.
You can drive to the first mountain by car. After that you have to walk. There are not many tourists here. Mostly guests from local tourist camps come.
